An independent volunteer panel of national experts, the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force, recommends anxiety screening for all young and middle-aged adults.

Since 2018, Dr. Laura Cooper of Lufkin has been a psychologist. Cooper stated that everyone experiences anxiety naturally.

"That's sort of a survival mechanism that we need to keep us safe."

40 million adults aged 18 and older are affected by anxiety disorders, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America.

Cooper stated, "Almost half of women and one in four men will have an anxiety disorder."

Anxiety disorders frequently present with symptoms such as irritability, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.

Cooper stated, "They are recognizable, and a lot of the time, we tend to minimize them."

Cooper stated that screenings can aid in anxiety reduction.

"Our GAD-7 scores are trending downward, indicating that treatment for anxiety results in improvement within eight to twelve weeks." Cooper said that screenings can also help people form relationships with mental health professionals and lessen the stigma associated with them. I think people will say, "This is so much better than what I thought it would be like" when they enter the office.
